Media records are identified by this icon:
.
When you add a picture, video, sound file, document file, or OLE object
into a Family Historian project, a Media record is automatically created
to represent that media item within the project. In fact you can treat
any external file (including a GEDCOM file) as a Media item if you wish
to, and when you add it to the project, a Media record will be created
to represent it.
Media records store file links to the media file (the file which holds the actual picture, video, or whatever it is). The media file can be kept within the project folder, or it can be located elsewhere. In general, it is advisable if possible to keep all media files in the project folder - doing so will make your project much more manageable and portable.
Media records are created when you use any of the following menu commands on the Add Menu:
They are also created if you add media items in the Media tab of the Property Box, or on the Media Viewer (shows media linked to facts primarily).
If you wish to add links from a picture or some other media item, to other records, you can do this when viewing the Media record in the Media Window (see, in particular, the Media Link Tool, which is designed to help make this as easy as possible), or in the Links tab of the Property Box when viewing Media records in the Property Box.
