| Close All Non-essential Windows |
Closes all workspace windows except the startup window - e.g.
all diagram, report, book, query, media, map or web search
windows. By default, the Focus
Window is the startup window. Also by default, the Records Window always has an
icon in the Navigation Bar, even if closed. However, this
is configurable in Preferences. |
| Lock Window (prevent re-use) |
Depending on the settings in the Workspaces tab in Preferences, some workspace windows can be re-used. When a workspace is re-used, the existing contents are normally replaced. The exception to this is the Map Window. When you open the Map Window, you normally specify a set of places or events to mark on the map. A new marker set is created with markers for each such place or event. The Map Window can display multiple marker sets. If it is re-used, an additional marker set will be added. The existing marker sets will not be replaced. If you allow the Diagram Window to be re-used and if you are currently viewing a diagram in a Diagram Window, and you choose an option to open another diagram, Family Historian will re-use the existing Diagram Window to show the new diagram, replacing the current contents of the Diagram Window. If you wish to make quite sure that a Diagram Window will not be re-used in this way, do not allow re-use of the Diagram Window (this is specified in the Workspaces tab in Preferences). If you want to allow re-use of the Diagram Window usually, but want to prevent it in a particular case, tick Lock Window when the relevant window is active. Locking a window only prevents the window being re-used. It does not prevent it being edited or closed, or anything else. The Diagram Window can never be re-used if it is displaying a saved chart - that is, a diagram that has been saved as a saved chart, in Family Historian chart format. In this case, the Lock Window option will not be available. The Lock Window command is applicable to all workspace windows where re-use is permitted. There is no limit to the number of workspace windows that you can have open at any one time. Workspace windows can only be re-used if re-use is enabled for
the relevant workspace type, in the Workspaces
tab in Preferences - and even in that case, you can
prevent re-use for any particular window, by clicking on Lock
Window . If re-use is not enabled in Preferences
for a given workspace type, locking windows of that type will
have no effect. Please note incidentally that a Diagram Window can only be re-used to display a diagram, a Reports Window can only be re-used to display a report, and so on. If you choose a menu command to open a report (say) and there is no available Reports Window which can be re-used, a new Reports Window will be opened. The Focus Window and Records Window can never be re-used so this option is not available for those windows. |
| Cascade | Organise all workspace windows into a tidy overlapping arrangement. |
| Tile Horizontally | Organise all workspace windows into a horizontally tiled arrangement. |
| Tile Vertically |
Organise all workspace windows into a vertically tiled arrangement. |
| Arrange Icons | Rarely used. If you have minimized workspace windows within the frame of the main application window, each workspace window will have an icon to represent it - usually displayed in the bottom left corner of the main application window. This command will arrange these icons tidily. |
| Log Files | Opens the Log File Dialog to display all log files in the current project (if any). The Log File Dialog is only available in the context of a project. |
| <Window List> |
List of currently open workspace windows. Click on any of these windows to activate it (bring it to the front). |
