The Result Set tab of the Query Window is sometimes known as the Results Window, for short. This is where the results of a query are displayed. You can sort the results by clicking on any column heading (press-and-hold the Alt key while clicking, to reverse the sort). A result set can be copied to the clipboard, saved to a file, or printed as a report (click on Print on the File menu). See the Query Toolbar and Query menu for options.
To select a group of cells, click in the top-left cell and, keeping the mouse pressed down, drag down to the bottom right cell.
If the group is large - and especially if you want to select all cells - an easier technique is to click in the top-left cell. Then (without keeping the mouse pressed down) scroll down till the bottom right cell is in view. Now press-and-hold the Shift key and click on the bottom right cell. This will select all cells in between. You can use the same technique to select all cells in a column.
Some cells in a result cell are displayed in black text, and some are displayed in grey (or at least, these are the default colours). Black text means that the cell represents (is linked to) an actual field or record in your project. Double-click on any such cell to locate that data item in the Property Box. Where a cell has grey text, this means that the cell displays calculated values, which do not directly represent (are not directly linked to) any particular field or record, so double-clicking on these cells does nothing.
If you right-click on a cell with black text, a dropdown menu will be displayed with options to:
The first is the same as double-clicking. The second will locate the data item in the All tab of the Property Box.
If you right-click on a field with grey text, the menu items will be greyed.
The Result Set tab of the Query Window is often referred to as the Results Window, in other parts of the program. It is used not just with queries but also for other purposes. For example, if you use the Find Dialog to search your project, there is a button , which you can press, to display results here. If you click Citations to Source Record on the View menu, to view all citations for a given Source record, the resulting table will also be displayed in the Results Window. Plugins too can display their output in the Results Window.
When the Results Window is used in this way, there is no query that is associated with it at that point, and the Query field will be blank.
