The Book Window (marked in red)

To open the Book Window, you must first open the Book List Dialog to select a book to open.  To do this, click on the Publish button Media button on the main application toolbar, and select Books & Booklets.  This opens the Book List Dialog.  Select a book and click the View Book button to open the book in the Book window.  If there are no books in your project, click New to create a new one.  You can also access the Book Window by clicking View Book in the Edit Book Dialog.

The Book Window, when opened (see image above), shows you a preview of what your report will look like when printed. From here you can browse through it on-screen, or print it (or a range of pages from it). You can also save a copy of it as a PDF file or as a word-processor document (in Rich Text Format - a format used by many word-processors, including Microsoft Word). If you wish, you can copy individual pages to the clipboard, and paste them into other applications. Click the Edit Book button on the right side to review and change any aspect of the book's content, style or layout.

You are not constrained in any way as to what you can can do while previewing a book. The Book Window is just one more workspace window in Family Historian like any other. You can switch to any other open workspace window (click on any of the window icons in the Navigation Bar on the left side of the window) without having to close the Book Window. By double-clicking on the items shown in the "Page Records" list (in the panel on the right), you can bring up the Property Box to view their details and change them if you wish. Click the Refresh Book button on the right-hand side to refresh the book, to reflect any changes you have made since it was opened.

The Book Window has a panel with buttons down the right-hand side. These buttons provide commands which are also available from the Book menu. Which buttons you see will depend in part on your screen size.

Double-click on an item in the list as a quick way of opening the Property Box for it - or select an item and click the Properties button below the list.
