Although it is a global standard, the GEDCOM
format used by Family Historian, was originally designed and specified
by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). Some of
the fields and even records in GEDCOM are of significance only to
members of the LDS Church. The Submitter record is normally used when
submitting a GEDCOM file to the LDS Church. In that case, it is used to
identify the individuals or organisations that contributed information
contained in the file. However, it can be used to identify the author of
the information in your project, even if there is no intention of
submitting your data to the LDS Church.
