Although it is a global standard, the GEDCOM
format used by Family Historian, was originally designed and specified
by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). Some of
the fields and even records in GEDCOM are of significance only to
members of the LDS Church. The Submission record is normally used when
submitting a GEDCOM file to the LDS Church. In that case, the submission
record is used to send instructions and information to the receiving
system. These instructions are specific to the LDS Church. For more
