Fields

Enable Auto-Geocoding If enabled, whenever a place is displayed in the Map Window, Family Historian will attempt to automatically determine its latitude and longitude, if this information is not already held for the Place record in question.   Automatic geocoding requires an Internet connection, and uses an Internet geocoding service.*
Mark Auto-geocodes as Tentative If By default, automatic geocoding will flag a geocode as tentative if it is partial or uncertain.  But you can opt to flag all automatic geocodes as (intially) tentative if you wish.  See also Map Window Legend.
Enable Zoom Animation By default, zooms in the Map Window are animated.  Untick this option to disable animation if required.
Block Refresh for Non-tentative Geocodes You can force an automatic refresh of geocoding for any selected places, using the Refresh Geocoding menu command, which is accessible both on the Geocoding submenu of the Map menu, within the Map Window, and by right-click on items in the List pane.  Enable this option to prevent a place that already has a latitude and longitude from being refreshed in this way, unless it is marked as tenative.
Preferred Map Type The Map Window supports two different map types: 'OpenStreetMap' (the default), and 'OSM Roads'.  You can switch between map types at any time on the Map Types submenu of the Map menu, or by clicking on the menu button Menu button in the top-right of the Map Window, and choosing the required option.  These changes only affect the current Map Window, however.  The Preferred Map Type option determines which map type will be displayed when you open a new Map Window.
Units Miles or kilometres.  These values are displayed in the Map Window.
Time Slider: Hide no-date markers when time slider is active When the Time Slider is enabled (see discussion of the Time Slider in the Map Window) markers for places associated with dated events are only displayed if they fall within the range specified by the Time Slider.  Use this option to specify whether, when the Time Slider is enabled, you wish to hide markers for places which have no date, or not.
Override Default Country Code Normally this field should be left blank. It is only relevant to auto-geocoding, and only then when trying to determine the latitude and longitude of a specified place, if the place details do not include any recognisable country specifier, and there is a need to guess what the most likely country might be. If this happens, ordinarily the 'Home Location' country held by Windows (as specified in the 'Region' settings in the Control Panel) is used as the default country. However, it may be that you are using a PC in one country to work on a project for people who lived predominantly in another country. Or the Region settings on your PC may be wrong. Either way, you can if you wish override the default country, by specifying the ISO code of the country that you wish to be the default. The code must be 2 letters. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-1 for a list of possible 2-character country codes.

If you enter a country code and later wish to revert to the default, just clear the code you entered.

Changes to this field are not applied immediately.  They only have an effect as from the next time you start Family Historian.
