How to Flag a Child as Adopted, Illegitimate, etc
There are various different ways to do this. The most common ways
are these:
- When viewing a person's record in the Focus
Window, right-click on a row for a child, in the Children
area. The dropdown menu that appears has a submenu labelled
'Relationship to Parents'. Choose an appropriate option from
this menu.
- When viewing a person's record in the Property
Box, their children are displayed in a table called the Children
Grid, in the bottom half of the Main
tab. The last column in this grid is labelled 'Rel.' which
is an abbreviation for 'Relationship to Parents'. It is blank if
the relationship is 'birth child', or shows a single letter for any
other relationship type. Click on a cell in this column to view
a dropdown menu with different options to choose from.
- The two previous methods start from the parent, and show you how to
change the relationship status of their children. If you are
already viewing a person in the Property Box and want to change their
relationship to their parents, without changing the selection in the
Property Box, you can do this too. Click on the Show Parent
Window icon on the Property Box toolbar, to show the person's
parents in the Parents Window.
You can specify the person's relationship to their parents using the
field labelled 'Relationship to Parents'.
It doesn't matter which technique you use. The effect is the same
in every case. You should use whichever technique is most
convenient for you.
