This dialog is accessed by selecting a witness role in the list in the Witness Roles Dialog, and clicking the button. All fields are mandatory.
| Role Name | This is a word or phrase that describes the role - e.g. 'bridesmaid' . The name must be unique for the current fact. No two roles, for a given fact, may share the same role name. Also, the role name may not be either 'principal' or 'principals' as these are reserved. |
|---|---|
| Past Tense | When mentioning that a person was a Witness at a given event or attribute in the Facts tab of the Property Box, the word or phrase entered as "Past Tense" will be placed before a short description of the event or attribute. So, a suitable value for a bridesmaid, say, might be "Was bridesmaid at" or even just "Bridesmaid at". |
| Witness Sentence Template | Must be supplied. The template is used to generate a sentence
for descriptions of witnessed facts, for people who have the
current role, in narrative reports. Click on the button to insert a template code into the
template. For a list of sentence template codes and their
meanings, see Sentence
Template Codes.
When you specify, here, a template for a given witness role for a given fact, it will be used for all sentences describing witnesses to such facts who had that role - unless it is overridden. Suppose you are specifying a template for the role of Bridesmaid for a Marriage event. You can see a pretty good approximation of the kind of sentence that will be generated for a given person, by selecting that person in the Witnesses Window, when viewing the event in question. The relevant sentence will be displayed in the Sentence field at the bottom of the Witnesses Window. The template you have defined may work well for most cases, but not be quite right in a given case. In that case, you can override it. Simply click in the Sentence field dialog and make whatever modifications you want. You can even add or delete template codes if you wish to. When you override the default template, the background of the field will become white to show that it is an override. To revert to the default template for the given field, simply delete the text in the field completely and click or tab elsewhere. The field will revert to the default value. |
| << Insert Code | See Sentence Template Codes. See also the discussion of the Witness Sentence Template field above |
| Advanced | Opens the Edit Role - Advanced Features Dialog,
which allows you to specify an optional Summary Template for use
with this role. Summary templates are primarily used in the
Facts tab listing of the
Property Box. |
