This dialog is opened when you select a chart or diagram in the Edit Book Dialog and click the button. The purpose of this dialog is to allow pages of a diagram to be selected for inclusion in a book, to adjust the position of the diagram on the printed page, to scale the diagram to any size, and to allow diagram options to be viewed or changed.
The main display area in the dialog shows a grid of pages of the selected diagram. The size of each page, and its orientation (portrait or landscape) is determined by the page size of the book, with due allowance for headers, footers and margins. Some diagrams will fit on one page. Others will be spread over several pages. By adjusting the scale and position on page, you can make any diagram fit on however many pages you want, positioned where you want.
To select a page for inclusion in the book, simply click on it (assuming that the 'Mouse Action' field is set to 'Select Page'). A selected page has a dark coloured border. Click it again to unselect it. Click-and-drag over several pages to select/unselect them all. If the first page you click on was selected, the action will be interpreted as an 'unselect' for all pages. If the first page you click on was unselected, the action will be interpreted as a 'select' for all pages.
Diagrams in books behave a little differently, as far as the diagram's
background is concerned, to the way they behave in the Diagram
Window. In the Diagram Window, you can choose a background for a
diagram which you can view in the window, and specify that you do not
wish this background to print when the diagram is printed. There
is no equivalent of this for diagrams in books. When a diagram for
a book is displayed, either in the Select Chart Pages Dialog, or in the
Book Window, it will always display exactly as it will appear when
printed. For this reason, if you wish the background of the
diagram to appear, you must tick the option in the Print tab of Diagram
Options. Unless this option is ticked, the background of the
diagram will not appear. You choose the kind of background you
want (e.g. a picture, or stripes perhaps) by clicking on the
field in the General tab of Diagram Options. But this option will
appear to have no effect if
is not also ticked on the Print tab. You can access Diagram
Options by clicking on the button,
or by right-clicking on the diagram and selecting from the dropdown menu that appears.
| Scale |
You can either enter a value directly into the Scale field, or click-and-drag on the slider - whichever is most convenient. The default value (unscaled) is 100% - which is also the topmost position on the slider. If, unusually, you want to alter a diagram to make it bigger rather than smaller, simply type the value you want directly into the Scale box (e.g. 150). |

| Mouse Action |
Choose 'Select Page' if you want to be able to select a page by
clicking on it. If you choose 'Position on Page', you can
adjust the position of the diagram on the printed page, by
clicking-and-dragging anywhere on the diagram. As you move
the mouse, the diagram will move, relative to the grid of pages. |
| Avoid Page Boundaries | Tick this option if you want boxes to be moved so that they do
not overlap page boundaries. If 'Position on Page' is the
chosen mouse action and you click-and-drag on the diagram to move
it, the diagram will appear to move in a somewhat jerky and
disjointed way, if 'Avoid Page Boundaries' is also ticked.
This is normal, and a consequence of the requirement to avoid
boxes overlapping page boundaries. |
| Select All |
Selects all pages. |
| Clear All |
Unselects all pages. You must select at least one page
before closing the dialog however. |
| Options |
Opens the Diagram Options
Dialog, which gives access to numerous options for the
diagram. |
