Book Window

Edit Book Dialog

To open the Edit Book Dialog, click Books on the Publish menu.  This opens the Books Dialog which displays a list of all the books in the current project, if there are any.  On this dialog box, books can be created, edited, cloned, viewed or deleted. Select a book and click Edit to open the Edit Book Dialog.  Alternatively, click New to create a new book.  Once you have provided a name for the book, the Edit Book Dialog will be opened to allow you to add items to the book.

The Edit Book Dialog can also be accessed by clicking Edit Book in the panel on the right side of the Book Window, when viewing a book in the Book Window.

The Edit Book Dialog is used to create and edit books.  Books can have a title page, a table-of-contents, an index, and free text (e.g. for a preface, acknowledgements, a copyright statement, or whatever you wish) - plus whatever content you wish.  The contents of the book - the chapters - will usually consist of reports that you choose to add, and/or charts and diagrams.  If you wish you can add free text too, as either a chapter, or as additional text added to a chapter.

See How to Add Content to a Book or Booklet for tips on using the Edit Book Dialog to add content to a book.

Tip: You never have to close the Edit Book dialog. It is similar to the Property Box, and certain other Family Historian dialogs, in that you make any changes you like to other windows, even when the Edit Book dialog is open. The Books dialog, which displays a list of books in the current project, works the same way.

Tip: Editing a book can be much slower if the book is currently being displayed in the Book Window.  If the Book Window is open and performance is slow, close it.
