Although it is a global standard, the GEDCOM format used by Family Historian, was originally designed and specified by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). Some of the fields and even records in GEDCOM are of significance only to members of the LDS Church. Submitter records are normally used when submitting a GEDCOM file to the LDS Church. In that case, it is used to identify the individuals or organisations that contributed information contained in the file.
