| Display Pane Only | Only the Display Pane is visible (see Media Window). |
| Autosize | If checked, the zoom level will be automatically adjusted to ensure that large pictures will fit in the available space. Pictures that are smaller than the available space are displayed at their normal size (100%). |
| Play/Open in Default Editor | Opens the given media object in a third party application - the one specified on your computer as the default application for viewing or editing files of this type. For a picture, this will usually mean opening a picture editor to view it. For a sound file, this is likely to mean opening an application to play it. For a video, this will usually mean opening a video-player application to view it. For a document, it will usually mean opening it for viewing and/or editing in a word-processor. If no application opens for a given media type, when you click on this command, you may need to configure your PC to specify a default application for the file type in question. |
| Locate on Disk | Opens File Explorer and locates the file for the currently selected media item. |
| Enable Media Link Tool | Opens the Media Link Tool, as a second tab in the List Pane. The Media Link Tool is designed to make it as quick and easy as possible to add links (frame links and simple links) to the current media item. |
| Paste Image | If you have previously copied an image to the clipboard, you can add it to the current project by clicking on this menu command. |
| Add Simple Link | Create a link from another record to this Media Object. The link is to the Media Object as a whole, and not to any specific part of it. |
| Keywords | Opens the Keywords dialog to view, edit and add keywords for the
currently selected Media records. Supports multiple
selection, so you can add or edit keywords for any number of Media
records at the same time. |
| Options | Displays options for Media in Preferences. |
| Expel Embedded Object (Make Linked) |
Only normally available when editing a GEDCOM File in
"standalone mode" (not as part of a Family Historian
project). However, it can be enabled if you wish (not
usually recommended) by clicking (click on the
Advanced button in the General tab of Preferences). Converts an embedded Media Object into a linked one, by copying the Media Object into an external file, and storing a file link to it. |
| Absorb Linked Object (Make Embedded) |
Only normally available when editing a GEDCOM File in "standalone mode" (not as part of a Family Historian project). However, it can be enabled if you wish (not usually recommended) by clicking (click on the Advanced button in the General tab of Preferences). Converts a linked Media Object into an embedded one, by copying the external linked file, and storing the copy embedded in the current GEDCOM file. The external file is not affected by this action. Note: it is not usually a good idea to do this as
it will make your data file much bigger and much slower to open. |
