Special CD-Backed Installers

What Are CD-Backed Installers?

A CD-Backed Installer is an installation program that does not come on a CD, but which only works if you have a particular CD, and if you put that particular CD into your CD drive when you run the CD-Backed Installer.

Who Are They For?

Q1. Do you have any of the following Family Historian installation CDs?

  • Version 2.0.7
  • Version 2.1.6
  • Version 2.1.8 – with a copyright message dated “2002, 2003”

Note: If you have a 2.1.8 installation CD but its copyright message is dated 2002-2004 (or anything other than “2002, 2003”) you should answer No to this question.

Q2. Do you want to use this version 2 CD for any of the following?

  • Install on a 64-bit version of Windows
  • Windows 7 or any later version of Windows
  • Install on a computer where the 16-bit subsystem is not working

If you answered Yes to both Q1 and Q2, you need a CD-Backed Installer..

The Problem

For technical reasons, the 3 CDs listed in Q1 above will not work in any of the contexts listed in Q2 above.

The Solution

Depending on which CD you have, you should download one of the following CD-backed installers. All 3 installers will install Family Historian Version 2.1.8 – even on 64-bit versions of Windows or if the Windows 16-bit subsystem is not working. However, they will only work if you also have the relevant CD. The CD must be in your CD drive when you run the installation or it will not work. If you have more than one CD drive, you can use either of them.
