Family Historian runs on the following operating systems only: Windows 10, 8.1, 8 or 7
Before attempting to install the program for the first time, please make sure that you have an activation code for Version 7. You will not be able to run the program without one.
If you purchased a licence in the Family Historian store, or applied for a 30 day trial, your activation code will have been emailed to you. If you bought an installation pack which has been posted to you, the activation code will be on a card in the pack, labelled “Activation Code & Instructions”.
Step 1 – Download
- Click the button above to download the program.
- If your browser asks if you want to run or save the download file (“install_fh7….exe”), click ‘Run’.
If you get any warning messages from your browser in relation to the download, please see Windows Warnings .
Step 2 – Install
Follow the on-screen instructions to install the program.
Step 3 – Activate
You will need to activate the software, the first time you run it after installation. Your computer will need to be connected to the Internet. When you run the program, you will be prompted to login to your Family Historian account. If you purchased your activation code from the Family Historian store you will have been given the option to create an account. If you did so you can use that account. If you don’t already have a Family Historian account, or have forgotten your account details, you can click on a link to create one. Make a careful note of the account details you use. When you activate the software within your account, you are permanently attaching the licence to that account. You only have to activate the software once, but you will need to login to the same account whenever you want to reinstall the software.
Once you have created your account or logged in, you will be prompted to enter your activation code. If the code was emailed to you, you are recommended to copy-and-paste it from the email to reduce the risk of typing errors. Press Ctrl-C to copy and Ctrl-V to paste.
See Activation Help for more information.
