Source Template Records

Source Template records are identified by this icon:  (similar to a Source record icon, but white instead of yellow).  Every Source record can optionally be linked to a single Source Template record.  A Source record that is linked to a Source Template record is called a templated Source record.  A Source record which is not linked to a Source Template record is called a generic Source record.  When you create a new Source record, you will be asked if you want to create a generic Source record or a "Source from Template" (i.e. a templated one).  If you opt to create a templated Source record, you will be required to select the Source Template record.

Templated Source records are designed to hold fields that are appropriate to their source type.  And it is the Source Template record that specifies what these fields are.  To learn more, see Sources and Source Templates.
