The Source Template Definition Editor allows you to view or edit the details of a particular source template definition, selected in the Source Template Definitions Dialog. Custom source template definitions (that is, source template definitions you have imported or created yourself) are editable. Standard (that is, non-custom) source template definitions can be viewed in the editor, but are displayed read-only and are not editable.
To learn more about source template definitions, see Sources and Source Templates.
| Template Name | Source template definition name. Source template names do not have to be unique - not even within their collection. But you will be warned when you save changes, if a source template name is not unique within its collection. |
|---|---|
| Collection | Name of the collection to which this source template definition
belongs. All source template definitions must belong to a
collection. To create a new collection, simply specify the
collection name. If the name is a new one - not already in
use - a new collection will be automatically created. |
| Category |
Optional. Source templates can
be assigned a category within a collection. The available
list of categories is the list of category names already in use
within the current collection. To add a new category, just
enter a category name that is not already in use within the
current collection. |
| Subcategory |
Optional. Source templates can be assigned a subcategory within a collection category. The available list of subcategories is the list of subcategory names already in use within the current collection category. To add a new subcategory, just enter a subcategory name that is not already in use within the current collection category. |
| Description |
Optional description of the source template. |
| Record Title Format |
The optional Record Title format for Source records
that use this source template. Whenever you create a Source record, from a template or not, it will need a record title. This is the name by which that Source record is known within Family Historian (this record title should not to be confused with the title of a book or document, which the Source record may itself represent). When you see a list of Source records, the record title will be the name shown for each Source record. Thinking up new names for record titles, is time-consuming and tedious. Moreover, when giving Source records names, it is desirable to be as consistent as possible, so that you can easily find similar Source records, and so that you know where to look for a given source in a list of Source records. One of the advantages of using source templates is that the process of generating record titles for Source records can be automated by specifying a format for the record title here. This has the double advantage of promoting consistency while making data entry faster and easier (because you don' t have to think up names for Source records). To learn more, see Source Template Formats. |
| Bibliography Format |
The Bibliography format for Source records that use this source
template. Bibliographies are optional sections within reports and
books. The Bibliography section lists all the sources
cited. The Bibliography section is always in alphabetical
order, and duplicate entries are merged into a single entry. To learn more, see Source Template Formats. |
| Footnote Format |
The Footnote format for Source records that use this source
template. The term 'Footnote' here denotes the Source Citation
listing in a report or book (or website). It isn't
necessarily presented literally as a footnote. To learn more, see Source Template Formats. |
| Short Footnote Format |
In the Sources section of the options for reports and books,
there is an option "Use Short Footnotes for Citations to
Already-Cited Sources". If this option is ticked, the Short
Footnote Format will be used for second and subsequent
citations to a source. To learn more, see Source Template Formats. |
