If you haven't already done so, we recommend you view the Online Tour of Family Historian to get an overview of what you can do with the program. You will need Internet access to do this. You can access the tour at any time by clicking on on the Help menu.
All new users are strongly recommend to view the Quick Start Guide. The boxed version of Family Historian includes a printed copy of the guide. It can also be viewed on-screen, by clicking on Quick Start Guide on the Help menu. You can choose between viewing the guide as a PDF file (you must have a PDF reader to do this) or viewing it in the Quick Start Guide web page. The Quick Start Guide is a short, visual guide that takes you quickly through the basics of using the program, using a series of annotated screen shots which can easily be understood by everyone.
The Help is what you are reading now. Specifically, you are reading "Getting Started". You should see a list of pages in the Contents area on the left-hand side. "Getting Started" is normally number two in the list. A little way below the "Getting Started" section of the Help is a section called "How to...". Expand this section (by clicking on the little box with a plus sign, to the left of it) to see instructions on how to perform various standard tasks. This whole section of the Help is a useful resource, so bear it in mind, whenever you're wondering how to do something.
Many windows within Family Historian have buttons. Don't forget to press them. If there is no button, pressing the F1 key will often take you to help which is relevant to whatever you are doing.
