Fields

Default Backup Folder If you usually backup to the same folder, specify that folder here, so that it is always the default when you do a backup.
Generate Backup File Name using Date in Year-Month- Day Order

When you do a backup, Family Historian will always automatically generate a default name for the backup file, using the current date and time. If this option is checked, Family Historian will format the date with year first, then month, then day. The advantage of doing it this way is that if you sort the folder containing the backup files, by name, the files will be in the correct chronological order.

If this option is not checked, Family Historian will format the date with day first, then month, then year.

Filename Prefixes for Backup Types

As well as adding the current date and time to the end of the name for the backup file, when you do a backup, Family Historian will also add a prefix to the backup file name which indicates what type of backup was done. There are 3 types of backups - Full, Medium and Small. You can override the default and specify your own prefix (or get rid of them altogether) if you wish.

To learn more about the 3 backup types, see Backups.

Backup on Exit
If 'Prompt for Backup on Exit (if changes)' is checked, Family Historian will prompt you to do a backup at the end of every session - if you have made any changes to the records in your project (including additions or deletions) during that session. At that point, you will be presented with a dialog box with 3 buttons on it: Backup, Skip or Cancel. The 'Backup Button Action' option determines what will happen if you click the Backup button. You can choose the kind of backup that you prefer to do at the end of each session. If you want to be given a choice each time, choose 'Let Me Choose Backup Type' (the default).
