The following images are displayed next to events and Place records in the List Pane, and show the status of the geocoding for the place information.  'Geocoding' is the process of determining the latitude and longitude for a given place.  See Map Window for more details about geocoding, maps, and the List Pane.

* 'Marked on the map' does not mean that the marker can necessarily be seen.  It may be scrolled off-screen.  Also, if the time slider is enabled, the marker may be hidden from view by the time slider.  Clicking the View All Markers button View All Markers button on the Map toolbar, will zoom the map to show all markers that are not hidden by the time slider.

To say that an item is 'geodocoded' does not necessariy mean that it has been automatically geocoded.  It just means that it has a latitude and longitude - supplied by whatever means.  Equally, any geocode can be flagged as tentative, whether automatically geocoded or not.  By default, automatic geocoding will flag a geocode as tentative if it is partial or uncertain.  But you can opt to flag all automatic geocodes as (intially) tentative if you wish.  This is an option in Preferences (Map Window tab).

In an Individual and Places market set (see Map Window), the icons shown above may be shown both next to events, and also next to the Individual records that the events are listed 'below' (to see the events for an Individual, you have to click on the expansion button Expansion button next to the Individuals row).  The icons, when appearing next to the Individual, have the same meaning as they have when shown next to their events (i.e. as shown in the table above) except that they apply collectively to all the events associated with the Individual.  If some but not all of the events for a given Individual, are marked on the map, an icon showing an intermediary value (Mixed or Mixed) will be displayed next to the Individual.  If an Individual has no events or facts (or none which have any place information) it will not have any icon.
