Diagram Options Dialog

Diagram Options Dialog: Text Tab

The text displayed in boxes in diagrams is determined by the text scheme. A text scheme can be simple or complex. It can ensure that different text is displayed in different boxes or the same text in all boxes. Some schemes display different information depending on which diagram options are being used. Some may display different information depending on the sex of the box owner, on record flags, and/or on other conditions.

Family Historian is installed with a number of standard text schemes. You can select whichever scheme you want for the current diagram, from the Select Text Scheme list.

You can modify any text scheme or create new custom text schemes of your own if you wish. Custom text schemes are listed together with standard text schemes (but with '(custom)' after their name).

The text scheme determines the colour of the text, and the fonts and styles used. It also determines the alignment of the text (left, right, centred or justified), and how text is indented. Different lines can have different text alignment and indentation, as well as different fonts, styles, etc.

Current Text Scheme shows the text that is currently being used in the diagram window.

To get a feel for what different text schemes do, make sure that the current diagram has an interesting selection of Individuals about whom you have recorded a reasonable amount of data. Next position the Diagram Options dialog to one side of the screen so that it obscures your diagram as little as possible. Then select each text scheme in turn and click Apply. As you click Apply, notice that the diagram changes to use the new text scheme (and the selected text scheme's name is displayed in the Current Text Scheme box). Be aware that text schemes can't show data you don't have. If you have not entered any census data, for example, the Census Data text scheme will not show much information.

Fields

Current Text Scheme Shows the text scheme currently in use in the Diagram Window. To change to another, select any text scheme in the list and click OK or Apply.
New Create a new text scheme. The Edit Text Scheme Dialog is opened for you to specify the name and contents of the new scheme.

See Create a Simple Text Scheme for help with this.

Edit Edit the text scheme using the Edit Text Scheme Dialog. If the scheme being edited is the current text scheme (the one currently being used in the Diagram Window) any changes you make within the Edit Text Scheme Dialog will be reflected immediately in the Diagram Window when you click Apply (that is, when you click Apply within the Edit Text Scheme Dialog).
