| Shift+Click | Select all items between the currently selected item, and the item clicked on. Useful technique to select multiple items quickly. Typically this works on lists - e.g. as in the Records Window. |
| Ctrl+Click | Select/unselect the clicked on item, without unselecting other items. Useful technique when selecting multiple objects. Works in the Records Window. Also works on boxes in the Diagram Window. |
| Click-and-Drag | If you click-and-drag on a box in the Diagram Window, this usually will allow you to add relatives to the person clicked on. If you click on the background of a window, you can create a stretchy box to ‘lasso’ items that fall within the box. This works in both the Records Window and the Diagram Window. |
| Right Click | Usually brings up a ‘context’ menu. This is a menu which shows a list of things that you can do with the thing you clicked on. |
| Mouse Wheel | Usually scroll the current list or diagram vertically (e.g. in the Records Window or the Diagram Window). When used in the Reports Window or the Book Window, the wheel does different things depending on where the mouse pointer is positioned. If the pointer is over the a page of the report or book, you will scroll up and down within that page. If the pointer is over the outermost scrollbar on the right- hand side, you will scroll up and down within the whole report or book – not just within a page, but across pages. And finally, if the mouse is over the two small arrow buttons to the right of the Page field, it will scroll forwards and backwards through the report or book, jumping from page to page, but keeping to the same relative position within each page. |
Typing any letter key in the Records Window will cause selection to move forward to the first record with name matching that letter. This also works in many other lists.
