Definition of Bands
There are 2 bands:
Band 1: Non-commercial Educational Institutions (Schools, Colleges, Universities, etc)
Band 2: All Other Institutions
If you are not sure which band your institution falls into, please contact Calico Pie for advice (email info@family-historian.co.uk).
For Band 1, two types of licences are available: Concurrent Usage Licences and Non-concurrent Usage Licences. For Band 2, only Non-concurrent Usage Licences are available.
Multi-User Licences Do Not Include Software
The prices shown below are for multi-user licences only. They do not include the cost of purchasing the actual software. Each boxed copy of Family Historian 4 includes a single-user licence agreement which is displayed when the product is installed. That single-user licence agreement continues to be valid even if the software is used in accordance with multi-user licences (so if you buy 30 multi-user licences and a single copy of the software, the maximum number of users who could legally use the software at any given time is 31).
The recommended retail price for a single copy of Family Historian 4 is £49.95.
Concurrent Usage Licences
These are slightly more expensive than non-concurrent usage licences. They allow the software to be installed on any number of computers within a single given named site, as long as the maximum number of users who use the software concurrently (simultaneously) never exceeds the number that you hold licences for.
A ’site’ for these purposes is typically a cluster of school or university buildings within a single grounds. Two buildings, or other such areas, are not considered to constitute a single site if you have to cross a public road to get from one to the other.
It sometimes happens that some schools or universities may operate across multiple sites, and may wish to use the software across more than one of them. Where this situation arises, we will normally be flexible, provided that there are good grounds for treating these sites, for practical purposes, as if they were one. In all cases, however, the names and addresses of each site to which a concurrent usage licence applies must be given, and will be included in the licence agreement.
Non-concurrent Usage Licences
These licences are cheaper but less flexible than Concurrent Usage Licences. They do not allow the software to be installed, at any moment in time, on more PCs than you have licences for.
Restrictions Applicable to All Multi-user Licences
Licenses cannot be sold or transferred. With a multi-user license the software may not be used by individuals for home use. The software may only be installed on PCs that are being used by the institution owning the licences, and may only be used for the purposes of the institution owning the licences. The software must be uninstalled from PCs before the PCs are disposed of in any way, or made available to any individual or institution for any other purpose.

Version Upgrades
To upgrade a licence of a given type to a version one greater than the licence is for (e.g. to upgrade a version 3 licence to a version 4 licence) costs 50% of the normal cost of the licence. To do this, you must contact Calico Pie Limited and surrender your licence document, which will be replaced with the upgraded version.
